Introduction of This Book
The key theme of the Gospel of John is โbeing born again.โ In its later chapters, the Gospel of John reveals the mystery of being born again through the Original Gospel of Truth. For instance, after Jesus died on the Cross, a Roman soldier pierced His side with a spear to confirm His death. The Gospel of John records, โBut one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believeโ (John 19:34-35).
This extraordinary event is a miraculous testimony of the Lordโs fervent love, bringing us to be born again through the Gospel of the water and the blood, even manifesting it through His dead body.
Additionally, the latter part of the Gospel of John teaches about the proper life of the born-again righteous. It introduces Jesus as โthe way, the truth, and the life,โ explains how we can bear abundant spiritual fruit, declares that the born-again righteous have overcome the world, and teaches how they can renew their hearts and follow the Lordโs will after sinning.
On the evening when Jesus was betrayed, during the Passover supper, He washed His disciplesโ feet. When Peter strongly objected, the Lord said, โIf I do not wash you, you have no part with Meโ (John 13:8). Shocked by this, Peter replied, โLord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!โ To this, the Lord responded, โHe who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely cleanโ (John 13:9-10).
Many preachers use this passage to support the doctrine of repentance prayers. However, the doctrine of repentance prayers is false and, in itself, a curse. Think about it: Can you remember and confess every sin you have committed in repentance prayer? What about the sins you cannot recall? The Word says, โWithout shedding of blood there is no remissionโ (Hebrews 9:22). Sins cannot be washed away by tearful repentance; they are remitted only through the payment of the ransom of life.
Many are trapped in such false doctrines, rendering themselves spiritual cripples and unable to rise from the position of being โChristian sinners.โ
The key to understanding why Jesus washed His disciplesโ feet lies in His words: โWhat I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after thisโ (John 13:7). The answer will become clear as you peruse this book.
I hope to richly share the profound and lofty spiritual lessons of the Gospel of John through this book.
Hallelujah!
